Ash thumbstick

The ash thumbstick is an unusual long stick that is much sought after in the countryside.

Produced using the coppicing method, these sticks are formed from the shoot that grows when the upper part of a young ash tree is removed.

Occasionally, these shoots fork to produce the distinctive thumbstick shape; the stick should be grasped around the neck, with the user's thumb resting in the 'V' formed by the shoots.

They are grown in the Somerset woodland of the manufacturer, Classic Canes.

Fitted with a 'Combi-spike' ferrule: a rubber ferrule fitted over a spiked one so that the stick may be used on hard and soft ground.

Height between 122 - 135cm.
