BLACKTHORN THUMB STICK
A traditional and very highly regarded country walking stick. The rich reddish-brown colour of the blackthorn bark is as distinctive as it is appealing. Grown from coppiced wood, blackthorn is an extremely thorny plant capable of inflicting poisoning on the forester if not correctly handled when cutting the sticks. However, the finished product is much admired for its knobbly, rustic appearance.
The thumb stick wether used for balance on a rural walk or as an ideal accessory in the game fair beer tent, long and rustic sticks are an essential component of British country style.
The thumb stick is so called because it is held with the thumb resting in the natural 'V', and wider 'V's also make excellent elbow rests.
